Bissy (Bizzy) or Kola Nut as it is called in Jamaica is traditionally used in the Caribbean as a home remedy for a variety of ailments. Studies have shown that the Kola Nut enhances alertness and physical energy. It also elevates mood, increases tactile sensitivity and suppresses appetite! The Kola nut comes from the evergreen kola tree and contains micronutrients like potassium, phosphorus, fiber, magnesium and calcium. It contains 2 to 3 percent caffeine and 1 to 2 percent theobromine both of which acts as a stimulant when consumed which may boost a person’s metabolism and promotes the production of gastric acid which increases the digestive enzyme’s effectiveness in the stomach.
